New Manchester City signings Savinho and Miedema excited by fresh challenges

New Manchester City signing Savinho has vowed to write his own chapter in the history of the club, as he was unveiled by the club alongside Vivianne Miedema. The 20-year-old Brazil winger was signed from Troyes on a five-year deal after his starring role on loan at Girona last season, where he helped the Spanish side qualify for the Champions League.

Savinho revealed that as a youngster he idolised former City favourite Riyad Mahrez and has chosen to take the Algerian’s No 26 shirt at the Etihad. Continue reading...

The comment provoked a furore but the former England full-back turned high-profile pundit was unrepentant, insisting that if profit is the priority, there are vital aspects of the roles of soccer clubs that risk being lost. The issue, clearly, is not restricted to US owners. It’s unlikely that anybody who is not a fan who takes over a club is going to be acting primarily in the best interests of the community it represents.
