Fresh doubts of deal being completed paint bleak picture and could leave troubled club unable to meet their financial obligations

Everton’s owner, Farhad Moshiri, has always sounded extremely confident that he will be selling the Premier League club to the US investment firm 777 Partners. In October last year he told Sky Sports News: “The more time that I have spent with the 777 team, the more my confidence increases that we have found the right people to take the club forward in the modern era.”

Gianluca Vialli: a look back at the Italy great's football life – video obituary

The former Italy striker Gianluca Vialli has died at the age of 58. Vialli, who played for Chelsea during a stellar career before going to become the club’s manager, had been undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. Vialli began his career at Cremonese, his hometown club, before going on to star in Serie A for Sampdoria and Juventus, ending his playing career at Chelsea before going into management and coaching. He was part of the backroom team that beat England in the final to win Euro 2020 and recently announced that he would be stepping away from his role as delegation chief with the Italy team to focus on his cancer treatment. Vialli announced he had undergone radiotherapy and chemotherapy in November 2018, having been diagnosed with cancer one year earlier. Football Beyond Borders: 10 years of using sport to change young lives

Over the last decade, the charity has taught thousands of young people life lessons on the pitch and in the classroom A couple of years after Jasper Kain and Jack Reynolds co-founded the charity Football Beyond Borders they travelled to Salvador, one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Kain was partly there to make a film about football but he also made connections between visitors and locals. “We ran a football tournament, where we paired football fans with families that were living in the favelas,” Kain says. “The idea was to give the locals some income as well as to unite them with fans because they couldn’t access any of the spoils as they didn’t speak any English.” This was a long way from the early days of FBB, which initially ran weekly football sessions in Kennington Park for 16- to 21-year-olds as well as a homework club at a school in Croydon for a younger age group, 75% of whom are at risk of exclusion.
