Ten Hag tells dropped Rashford to use McTominay and Maguire as inspiration

* Rashford was left out for Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea
* ‘He’s not in the form he was last year but he will get there’




Erik ten Hag has told Marcus Rashford it is up to the forward to force his way back into Manchester United’s team, with the manager pointing to how Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay have done so.

Rashford was dropped for Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford, with his replacement on the right wing, Antony, impressing. Rashford prefers to operate as a wide left forward but Alejandro Garnacho is performing well there, his cross creating McTominay’s winner against Chelsea. The comment provoked a furore but the former England full-back turned high-profile pundit was unrepentant, insisting that if profit is the priority, there are vital aspects of the roles of soccer clubs that risk being lost. The issue, clearly, is not restricted to US owners. It’s unlikely that anybody who is not a fan who takes over a club is going to be acting primarily in the best interests of the community it represents.
