Manchester United’s Antony calls out his critics and trial by ‘digital court’

* Brazilian says former United players have criticised him unfairly
* ‘I’ve never seen them give constructive criticism,’ Antony says




Antony has upbraided former Manchester United players for their “malicious” criticism of him, stating that they offer nothing constructive and their views are magnified by a “digital court” that can ruin lives.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 for £85m the Brazilian has struggled for consistent form. The winger’s first season featured eight goals and three assists in 44 United appearances, and this term he is yet to score or make an assist in 15. Continue reading...

On Thursday 22 October 1992, I attended an event in Crewe to hear Simon Armitage, a newly published poet, read his work. I remember the date because I still have the ticket and poetry recitals were not a normal night out for those of us who grew up in the pubs and clubs of Grimsby in that era. It was a night that changed my life as I glimpsed a possible world that could coexist alongside the heavy-drinking, sometimes scrapping, football-loving culture and the constraints men set themselves back then. Some constraints were self-imposed, others were rooted in the ignorance and prejudice of the time.
