FC Cincinnati eliminates New York Red Bulls from MLS playoffs

* Red Bulls lost game two of a best-of-three series on penalties
* Cincinnati advances to the Eastern Conference semi-finals




Aaron Boupendza scored the equalizer in the second half and FC Cincinnati eliminated the New York Red Bulls 8-7 in a 10-round penalty shootout after the two clubs played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

After being losing the opening game 3-0, the Red Bulls returned home for a series-deciding match. Neither team scored until Tom Barlow found the net unassisted in the 45th minute to give the eighth-seeded Red Bulls the lead at the half. Continue reading...

The comment provoked a furore but the former England full-back turned high-profile pundit was unrepentant, insisting that if profit is the priority, there are vital aspects of the roles of soccer clubs that risk being lost. The issue, clearly, is not restricted to US owners. It’s unlikely that anybody who is not a fan who takes over a club is going to be acting primarily in the best interests of the community it represents.
