* Ten Hag accepts club must be realistic over transfer package * United’s £40m offer for Mason Mount rejected by Chelsea Manchester United have ended their interest in signing Harry Kane from Tottenham, feeling the money it will take to lure the England striker to Old Trafford is unrealistic. The United manager, Erik ten Hag, had made the player his primary summer target and is disappointed it has fallen through, but understands the club cannot go past a certain point when it comes to the transfer fee and the overall package for a 29-year-old, who has one year left on his contract. Manchester United confident on financial fair play despite £113m loss

* Club records revenues of £661.8m in year to 30 June * ‘Our clear objective is to return to the top,’ says Berrada Manchester United are confident they comply with Premier League and Uefa financial rules despite posting a £113.2m net loss in their latest accounts. It is the fifth consecutive year United have made an annual loss, with the club £115.5m in the red in 2021-22 and £42.1m in 2022-23. Profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) permit a £105m loss over a three-year period, but within the regulations certain deductions are allowed in relation to investment in infrastructure, the academy and women’s teams, among other things, which United believe means they will not fall foul of spending regulations. Horan’s header secures inaugural W Gold Cup title for USWNT over Brazil

* As it happened: USA 1-0 Brazil * Captain’s goal seals victory for Americans in San Diego Lindsey Horan scored with a header in first-half stoppage time and the United States beat Brazil 1-0 on Sunday to win the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup. The United States lifted the trophy despite being stunned by a loss to Mexico in the group stage of the tournament. It was the first women’s Gold Cup, with the event created to bring teams in the region more meaningful competition. It was the fourth time that the United States have faced Brazil in a tournament final. The Americans won the previous three, including the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. The game drew a sellout crowd of 31,528 to San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium, a record crowd for a Concacaf women’s match. Continue reading...
